Fields of Intervention:
DCI-Ghana was created to promote and defend children’s rights. Therefore, several actions are undertaken in the following priority issues:
- Eliminate child marriage, GBV, commercial sexual exploitation and harmful practices in children’s communities
- Encourage authorities to create child protection committees in their communities
- Provide socio-legal support services to child victims of abuse
- Justice for children
- Child protection (with specific programmes on girls and young women)
- Protection from sexual Gender Based Violence and other forms of child abuse
- Tackling child labour and child trafficking
- Education on human rights and child rights
- Preventing violence against Children
Sucess story:
Through mobilisation, training and capacity support for champions of change, traditional leaders putting Actions in place to eliminate or stop child marriage, GBV and commercial sexual exploitation in their communities. Example, a traditional leader and a Champion of change, Nana Owusu Akyaw who is the chairman of all sub chiefs in Obuasi included the issue of child marriage, GBV and commercial exploitation in one of the sub chiefs meetings and sensitised other chiefs to become agents of change to their communities. During the meeting he encouraged chiefs to form child protection committees in their communities to handle issues of child marriage, GBV and commercial exploitation and this agenda was accepted by the sub-chiefs within the jurisdiction of Nana Owusu Akyaw. Nana Owusu Akyaw was part of the traditional leaders who issued communiqué on 2nd May 2019 at M Plaza hotel in Accra and called on Government, MMDAs, Colleague Traditional Authorities, Religious Leaders, Media, parents, care Givers and all relevant stakeholders to help create an enabling environment for the general protection of women and children in Ghana.
