Report on the Detention of Migrant Children in Closed Centers

This report was published by Defence for Children International- Belgium in collaboration with UNICEF in 2008. It discusses children who have migrated to Belgium and subsequently been detained in closed facilities.

Since these children are migrants, they are often lost in the justice system with no one to look after their rights. But the Convention on the Rights of the Child guarantees that all children have the same rights. These children need our protection. The state has an obligation to protect the rights of these children that it often overlooks. This report offers testimonies from migrant children, which shows that they must not be ignored. Through these testimonies there is a history of millions of men, women, and children in the world. It is a history of fathers, mothers, brothers, and sisters. We would like to tell their story and break the silence so that people will act. We all have a role to play in this injustice.
