The Human Rights Council starts its 19th Session in Geneva.

On Tuesday 28 February at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, the ·signing ceremony of the Third Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on a Complaints Mechanism, which was adopted on 19 December 2011 by the General Assembly. The Optional Protocol is open for signature by any State that has signed, ratified or acceded to the CRC or either of the Convention’s first two Optional Protocols on the sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography and on the involvement of children in armed conflict.·

In March many of our DCI delegates from all over the world will be travelling to Geneva to attend the Human Rights Council’s 19th session, which will hold its·annual full day meeting on the rights of children and administration of justice,·on Thursday 08 March – said theme is of paramount importance to the entire DCI movement, and will therefore be presenting both written and oral statements to this session.

During their brief time here in Geneva, DCI delegates will also be taking part in an intensive training course on international human rights mechanisms: with the aim of brining local experiences into the international arena, and empowering them to advocate for the protection and promotion of chilren’s rights. To put theory into practice, the delegates will be actively participating in the 19th session of the Human Rights Council, particularly the annual full day meeting on the rights of children and the administration of justice, and to several side-events:”·Detention as an alternative measure “-“·Age limits in the juvenile jistice systems “-“·Preventing violence against children
