New statement on child rights in the OPT

On February 5, the Pre-Trial Chamber I of the International Criminal Court (ICC) decided that the Court’s territorial jurisdiction in the Situation in Palestine extends to the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT), the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip. On March 2, ICC Prosecutor, Fatou Bensouda, confirmed that the Office of the Prosecutor has initiated an investigation covering crimes committed in the OPT since June 13, 2014.

Defense for Children International – Palestine has documented over 700 Palestinian children who have been killed by Israeli forces and settlers since then. 150 Palestinian children were killed by live ammunition or crowd-control weapons, including 34 children who were killed in Gaza while participating in the Great March of Return. At least 535 children were directly killed by Israeli attacks during the 2014 Israeli military offensive, Operation Protective Edge. Read the full statement here.
