On Wednesday 6th July 2022, Defence for Children International delivered a statement at the HRC50 interactive dialogue with the Independent Expert on the Central African Republic (Resolution 48/19).
In the statement DCI recommends:
- Release children from armed groups and offer them full support in their reintegration through family tracing and reunification, psychosocial assistance, and educational and vocational training. Special attention should be paid to girls who have been recruited into armed groups.
- Criminal prosecution of perpetrators, and access to justice for children, in accordance with the Child Protection Code and international standards, through independent judges trained in children’s rights.
- Promoting children’s participation in the peace process: to achieve this, it is essential to change traditional attitudes that limit children’s opportunities to express their views.
- And finally, immediate compliance with the ceasefire by all parties.
