Event in parallel to the 53rd Session of the UN Human Rights Council: “Children in Israeli prisons: Children deprived of their childhood”

Defence for Children International (DCI) and the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967 Francesca Albanese organized an event and photo exhibition in parallel to the 53rd Human Rights Council: Children in Israeli prisons: Children deprived of their childhood. The event was held on 10th July 2023 at the Institut des cultures arabes et méditerranéennes.

 

The event consisted of a panel discussion with the participation of:

 

  • Francesca Albanese, Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967
  • Khaled Quzmar, President of the DCI Movement & Director General of DCI-Palestine
  • Nery Ramati, Israeli lawyer defending Palestinian children in military courts
  • Roberto Brancolini, Photographer of the exhibition ‘Children of a Lesser God’

The speakers bore witness to unlawful arrests and judicial procedures that violate the principles of rule of law and fair trial, concerning arbitrary detention and prosecution of Palestinian children in the Israely military system. The discussion was followed by a photographic exhibition “Children of a lesser God” by the Italian photographer Roberto Brancolini.
