Election of a New Executive Council at DCI-Ghana

(únicamente en ingles)

On August 19 and 20, 2018, Defence for Children International in Ghana (DCI-Ghana) held its General Assembly (GA) to review its policies and programs, followed by the election of new officers to govern the organization. The President of the International movement of Defence for Children International, Abdul Manaff Kemokai (Mr.) participated in the GA of DCI-Ghana to provide technical support and to ensure that the proceedings and outcomes of the GA were consistent with the global principles and policies of the DCI movement.

During these two day, members of DCI-Ghana reviewed and updated their statute to ensure that the new statute conforms with progress and new developments within DCI-Ghana. They also addressed constitutional gaps that have been constraining decision making with the organization. Among key issues that were outlined in the new statute, were fair gender representation and children’s participation in decision making and program delivery.

The GA has elected new officers of the Executive Council who will also be serving as the Board of the organization, providing oversight to employees involved with project implementation and administration of the organization. The newly elected President, His Royal Highness Nana Akomanyi Essandoh (V) expressed gratitude to his colleagues for electing him and reaffirmed his motivation for this new position. He promised to use his media skills and position as a traditional leader to support DCI-Ghana in increasing its chances to addressing child abuse and gender-based violence particularly at local level. He also plans to promote peace and unity within the organization by enhancing good working relationship among GA members and employees, as well as by strengthening accountability measures within the organization.

His Royal Highness Nana Akomanyi Essandoh has been a member of DCI-Ghana since 2004. He is a journalist by profession and was recently crowned as chief of Gomoa Odumase town in the Central Region of Ghana in August 2014. This young leader is ambitious and has a willful spirit.
