DEFENCE FOR CHILDREN INTERNATIONAL (DCI) is DEEPLY SADDENED BY THE DEATH OF MR. WANDERLINO NOGUEIRA NETO, TRULY COMMITTED MILITANT FOR THE DEFENCE OF CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS’ RIGHTS
It is with deepest sadness that Defence for Children International (DCI) has learned of the death of Mr. Nogueira Neto, a children’s rights defender and advocate, and former member of the United Nations Committee of the Rights of the Child (UNCRC Committee).
Mr. Nogueira Neto was a truly committed militant for the defence of children and adolescents’ rights as a member of Brazilian National Association of Centers for the Defense of Child Rights (ANCED)– DCI Brazil.
Mr. Juan Fumeiro, Vice-President of DCI – Americas, has expressed his deep sorrow at the passing of Mr. Nogueira Neto: “The Vice presidency of DCI Americas, is deeply saddened by the death of Mr. Wanderlino Nogueira. He was actively involved in the defence of children’s and adolescent’s rights in the region, specially advocating for the most vulnerable sectors of society”.
Trained as a lawyer and former Prosecutor in the State of Rio de Janeiro, Mr. Nogueira Neto actively participated in drafting of the “Statute of Parenting”, a pioneer document in the Latin American region on an institutional framework based on the United Nations Convention of the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). He held the positions of President of the Bahia Public Prosecutor’s Association (Amped), he was Professor of Public International Law at the Federal University of Bahia, Researcher at the National Institute of Human Rights of Children and Adolescents (INDHIA) and Coordinator of training projects of the Brazilian Association of Magistrates and Promoters of Children and Youth (ABMP), hence becoming a well-known and experienced advocate for children’s and adolescents’ rights in Brazil and beyond.
Defence for Children International (DCI) would like to extend its most respectful thoughts and support to Mr. Nogueiro Neto’s family, friends and colleagues during these difficult days. The children’s rights community around the globe loses a great defender and ally.
