Defence for Children International signs joint statement to end child immigration detention in Europe

11th EU Forum on the Rights of the Child

7-8 November 2017, Brussels

In light of the 2017 European Forum on the Rights of the Child, this year focusing on “alternatives to detention” the Initiative for Child Rights in the Global Compacts (to which DCI is member) together with other key stakeholders committed to work to end child immigration detention and have released a joint statement asking EU member states to work towards ending child immigration detention both in Europe and across the globe.

The statement called upon EU governments to take immediate steps towards ending child immigration detention, ensuring alternatives to detention are accessible and available.
