Fields of Intervention:

DCI-Jordan was created in Jordan in order to promote and defend children’s rights. Therefore, several actions are undertaken in the following priority issues:

  • Awareness-raising and lobbying against laws that discriminate women and children
  • Monitoring of the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child
  • Juvenile Justice

Current Activities and Projects/Programmes:

In recent years, DCI-Jordan has carried out inter alia the following projects:

  • Shelters for Women and Children

DCI-Jordan provides shelter, psychosocial support, and legal counseling for women and children in specialised institutions. This also includes Syrian refugees, for whom counseling and rehabilitation programmes are implemented. A special emergency line has been created for children who are separated from their parents, with the goal to provide them with a safe place to stay at.

  • Advocacy Campaigns for Women and Children

Awareness campaigns in regional communities to amend laws and monitor the respect of the best interests of the child and women. One of the current campaigns aims at raising awareness of trafficking and violence against women, children, and other vulnerable groups. Other activities concentrate on the amendment of Jordanian law to allow women to pass on their nationality to their children and another calls for juvenile justice systems reforms, by creating specialised courts, improving detention facilities, and creating better laws for children.
