DCI Calls for Action to Protect Palestinian Children at HRC57

On 2nd October 2024, Defence for Children International delivered a statement during the 57th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva. The statement shed light on the threats faced by Palestinian children.

DCI called on the international community to:

  • Enact an immediate and comprehensive arms embargo alongside diplomatic and financial pressure to compel Israeli authorities and forces to end the genocide of Palestinians in Gaza, the Israeli apartheid system, and the Israeli military occupation of the occupied Palestinian territory;
  • Investigate allegations of war crimes and crimes against humanity, as well as support investigations by the International Criminal Court, in order to hold perpetrators accountable;
  • Demand the immediate release of all Palestinian children in Israeli detention centres and prisons;
  • Use all available means, including those above, to demand Israeli authorities to uphold Palestinian children’s rights as outlined in the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which the State of Israel has ratified; and
  • End all complicity and financial and diplomatic support to the Israeli apartheid system.
