Comments on the CRC’s Draft General Comment 24

Defence for Children International, along with other civil society partners and independent experts convened a meeting in London, England on December 19, 2018, in order to collectively discuss and propose improvements to the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child’s draft General Comment 24 on children’s rights and the justice system (also known as the revision of General Comment 10 on children’s rights in juvenile justice systems).

The result is a joint submission sharing common concerns and suggestions for the Committee to consider as it finalises the draft General Comment. The joint submission did not preclude organisations submitting supplementary submissions. The submission contains an explanatory note about the topics raised by the signatories. We have also shared a version of the draft General Comment with our suggested changes in track changes as well as a clean version.
