Collective complaint against the Kingdom of Spain regarding the situation in the shantytown of Cañada Real in Madrid

DCI and four other NGO’s submitted to the Executive Secretary of the European Committee of Social Rights a collective complaint against the Kingdom of Spain regarding the situation in the shantytown of Cañada Real, in Madrid.

The Complaint is about the ongoing power outage occurring in the Sectors 5 and 6 of the shantytown of the Cañada Real Galiana (hereinafter, “the Cañada Real”) in Madrid, Spain, which began in October 2020 and continues to this day. It denounces that Spain is in breach of its obligations to the Council of Europe, as laid out in the European Social Charter, by failing to ensure heating and electricity supply to some 4,500 people living in sectors 5 and 6 ofCañada Real, of whom at least 1,800 are minors.

The complaint contains an urgent request for immediate measures and priority to examination.
