9th july 2020: child-led event on ‘Girl human rights defenders on the frontline of COVID-19 response’

This event will hear from children, particularly girls, who are on the frontline of the COVID-19 response and peaceful protests. We want to hear from children their personal experience of the crisis and which issues global leaders should prioritise to ensure a gender-based approach during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.

Some children in this discussion have developed their own advocacy strategy targeting the relevant stakeholders and identifying the most effective ways to deliver their messages. They organise activities to promote girls’ rights and combat gender-based violence GVB at the national, regional or international level. They deliver media messages and meet with people in their community to raise awareness about COVID-19 impact. They work on prevention, early-warning and accountability.
